... I agree with much that you say but if the Lord has given me a heart for my fellow Jews and Israel does that make me a Gnostic? I think not. |

Chuck Church Self-Dealing, and Christ-in-You might be What's NEW!!! Dear Rob, I really enjoy your line up of "ministry-fad-flavors-of-the-day". And especially, "pan-wrath-exhousia"!!! You have taught me, or listed for me, many "new flavors" of vanity and purposelessness and stupefying-mind-occupiers I was heretofore unaware! And yes, each new flavor even now being thunk up in 2012, will, in the end, be more "nothing new under the Sun"... the Son being who exposes darkness with the light of truth! However, that being said, we must not give up searching... for Truth! And a fine way is to follow a scientific method of discovering what's wrong. What's wrong with the list? It doesn't generate Christ-in-Youness in anybody. That's what. But if you discover enough things wrong with the broken engine of Christianity, you might eventually discover what right things actually make Christ-in-Youness... in bodies run! I, myself, have discovered that there is a lot of hidden self-dealing in modern Christianity. This is a great thing to discover, and ferret out of one's own operations. Because hidden self-dealing is virtually guaranteed to eliminate any and all abilities to promulgate Christ-in-You-ness. (And most of the list you mention, at heart, is self-dealing shenaniganry.) Examples of self-dealing would include the pastor who preaches on giving, yet fails to mention that giving to his church (whose assets might be in his and the wife's name, thus at risk of division through divorce, age or avarice) is very much a self-interested deal to himself. Here in America, nondom church assets are of the hidden retirement package of the pastors and speculating monied elders/church-starters. Hence, I've never heard such a pastor ever mention his retirement needs. His retirement = the buildings built. You see, Christ discussed giving at the temple when observing the widow and her mite, yet He -- Jesus -- was not the recipient of funds given at the temple. He was a disinterested observer/commentator. Not so, the typical nondom pastor in America who lectures on giving, giving only to his hidden retirement building/package program! Ministers also want revival, and don't mention revival might also be a self-interested proposal for them. Many ministers are hirelings, and their pay and benefits would go up proportionately according to the revived upward count of tithes from the newly fleeced. Where there is self-interest, self-dealing and the complete absence of "men-are-not-angels-and-need-government, but-all-government-of-men-need-severe-self-dealing-restrictions, including-and-especially-the-preisthood" then... there is usually no discernible "Christ-in-You-ness" obtainable, whereas where humility truly reigns at a deep level (virtually all hidden, mind-manipulating shenanigans curtailed) then... voila! Christ-in-You can be successfully promulgated! But only sans shenanigans! This country is explored nowhere to be found on the internet, except I enjoy writing about it... because such diggings result in the "fruit" (mixing metaphors) of much GOLD! |

Nothing New Under The Sun There is nothing "neo" about the gnosticism. It's always been there. At its heart is the desire to add to what Jesus has done usually through some sort of esoteric knowledge. Classically it involved a series of spirit guides or intermediary intercessors between man and Jesus, who was the last and greatest. Our society's obsession with celebrities and its dissatisfaction with who we are play right into this. We have the celebrity preachers and teachers who have the knowledge that will set us free. They are the intermediaries who will bring us into the "real" spiritual experience. Whenever anyone preaches Jesus Plus it is a warning of gnosticism. Jesus plus- tithing or apostolic anointing or prophecy or the baptism (water, spirit or angelic), or the secret teaching only now revealed. There are a lot of really good and important things that we need to take hold of in the kingdom of God, and in many ways we have failed to take hold of all that God wants for us. But when we add anything to the works of Jesus as necessary for salvation then we are into gnosticism or some other error. The way out is to repent and come back to Jesus. Then we need to hold onto what is good and not throw the baby out with the bath water. For example I believe in spirit baptism, cell church and apostolic covering. These things are helpful in my walk with God and in helping others to mature in Christ. But if any of these things become the only thing I talk about, or if I start to believe that the only way to salvation is to embrace my way, the it becomes cultic and oppressive. Thanks Rob for a good message. |
