At each step along the journey we have had the opportunity to do personal prophetic ministry. This is a phenomena that seems to have fallen out of favour, and is much less prevalent. But in California, Missouri and Oklahoma we prayed for (and recorded) several people. The Lord gives words of knowledge, wisdom and prophecy. Perhaps the most arduous length of ministry we did was in 2006 at Deeper Life fellowship where Kurt and I ministered for about ten hours straight (with a break for lunch).

On the trip over here in 1998, Mario lent me an audio tape of William Branham preaching (My life history part I & II). William was best known for his spectacular evangelistic crusades at which he ministered with the Angel of the Lord who gave him words of knowledge. The Angel would stand in the congregation and highlight people to pray for, or the Angel would stand with him on the stage and tell him about each person. Paul Cain often ministered alongside William, taking over the last few days of his rallies so he could rest. I was very taken at the time with the level of accuracy and intensity of Williams words, they far surpassed my own experience.

On that trip we visited Mobile Alabama to minister at the Morningstar School of the Spirit with David White. The next night we preached at "The Commons" (Harvest Church theatre) on "Back to Brass Tacks" - a strong message about turning back to our original call. There were about 170 people there. There was an opportunity for ministry at the end. Now the funny thing about that night was that an Angel of the Lord showed up at the meeting toward the end of my preaching. He wandered around the auditorium selecting people to be prayed for. This one couple really stood out to me. I recall the word clearly enough.

AdornateThe angel stood behind them holding a two masted boat (schooner) with a bow-sprit. On the sprit was a scripture verse, but I could not quite make out what it said. Jeremiah 1:7? I thought through the Scripture and started to quote about the call of the prophetic. "Gird up your loins; stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not break down before them, or I will break you before them..." the angel smiled, and lent over the couple's shoulder and whispered "It's Jeremiah 1:17" and leant back. So I corrected myself. There was more about returning to your first love, and layers of veneer needing to be stripped off before being ready to set sail again.

In the car on the way to our accomodation Kerry Denten told me that I actually squinted to try and "see in the Spirit"! (In those days I did not have glasses). I tell this story now because we have been staying at Mike and Patty Wood's house. Somehow the conversation turned to ministering with angels, and Mario started telling this story. I laughed, recalling the couple standing there, when Patty blurted out "That couple was us!" How fantastic. She recounted to us how that sermon, and indeed that prophetic word sustained them for five years. It helped them to understand the trials they went through and have endurance to go through it all.

For me, the experience was very difficult, and I have not really ministered that way since. It was such a struggle to obtain the information - beause it came from outside. Ordinarily words of knowledge come from the inside - an insight, a Scripture, a mental impression to be interpreted. But when it comes from an angel you hear a voice in your ear, or he acts out the information or you have an external vision.
